BLOG # 1: From class discussion and course readings, what kind of research does it look like people do in English and writing studies? What kind of research are you interested in doing?

After looking through the material that we will be studying in this course, I noticed that a good portion of the material comes from oral practices within our language. I feel that oral language is important because it is something that we need to be successful individuals both socially and within our workforce. However, how we perceive language, how we write, and how we interpret it, all intertwine within one another. I am looking forward to reading about student writing, because everyone writes differently and it is interesting to see why. It seems that people do a lot of research on topics that they are familiar with and feel comfortable studying. I am interested in a few topics: How do individuals tell a story and how do other individuals interpret the story to pass on to others? This is one idea that I am interested in as well as maybe something to do with children. Any suggestions would be helpful at this time!

  1. Understanding how other pass on stories to each either whether it be their friends or family is certainly and interesting topic, we as humans seem to get different facts twisted or even add facts to a story to make it seem more interesting, especially in young children.

  2. I totally agree on researching how people pass on stories from one generation to the next. It would be interesting to find out how that is done.

  3. I find it interesting to see how differently people write. People are so diverse and reading about various peoples' writing shows how unique everyone truly is.
